My name is Emilie McKnight (she/her) and I’m an interdisciplinary artist from Ontario, now based in British Columbia, where I study at Emily Carr University of Art and Design. My practice is deeply rooted in observation and process, and has evolved through the exploration of a wide range of mediums. I often blend multiple disciplines within a single piece and now primarily focus on bookmaking, writing, photography, scanography, drawing, and sound.

Using a hands-on, experiential approach to learning and research, I investigate the world through observational methods– documenting my findings through writing and visual work. Both urban and green spaces inform my practice, particularly the human traces we leave behind, whether intentional or accidental.

Through photography and the use of a portable scanner, I aim to invite new perspectives on the everyday. Whether that’s a garbage bin, street sign or the textures of a weathered wall, I believe there is art to be found all around us– it just depends on how you choose to look!

Abstraction plays a recurring role in my practice, allowing me to explore unfamiliar perspectives and develop alternative visual realities. For me, art is a way to connect, reflect, and better understand the world around me.
